You will be dropped right at the front entrance of the building. All parking fees dollars are reinvested back into Griffith Park to support park improvements, shuttles into the park, maintenance, security and more.

I thought this was going to be one of those overrated things about LA but I was wrong! This is so worth the stop. I enjoyed everything about this place. The parking can be a bit tricky but if you come from the north entrance, the free parking makes it easier to park. Then they have a shuttle bus that takes you to the top if you do not want to walk to the top. But Los Angeles has a fascinating history that goes beyond movie-making and beaches.

In the 18th century, the Spanish governor of California presented the land that is today Griffith Park to Corporal Jose Vicente Feliz, as a gift for safely bringing the first Spanish settlers to California.
In those days, the land was known as Rancho Los Feliz. Today, the neighborhood the park sits in is still known as Los Feliz. The Los Feliz neighborhood is loved for its charming cafes and restaurants, pedestrian-friendly streets a rarity in Los Angeles , and its eclectic mix of residential architecture. That year, Welsh immigrant Griffith J. Griffith purchased the land after striking it big in the silver mining industry. A philanthropist and lover of his adopted city, Griffith gave the land to the city of LA as a Christmas present in so it could be used as a public park.

Buses require exact change; drivers are not able to make or provide change. It is possible buses may be delayed because of traffic congestion. The Greek Theatre season generally runs from April through October. Those hiking to the Observatory are encouraged to take one of the hiking trails which originate near the Greek Theatre or Fern Dell.
There is public parking near all trailheads. Check Griffith Park hiking maps for more information. Those cycling to the Observatory must use paved park roads not the park trails or fire roads and may park and bike from public spaces around the park. The Observatory has several bike racks. That road is one way down. You must take West Observatory Road to get to the Observatory. Visitors are welcome to arrive via taxi, limo, airport shuttle, and shared ride service.
Immediate pickup and drop-off for such vehicles is in the red area shown on the map below , just past the Observatory horseshoe driveway in front of the lawn. NO such vehicles may park at the Observatory, at any time. If you are able to walk up to a mile up hill, you can park for free in the area around the Greek Theatre see map above.
